Bright Gold Luster (12%)

Bright gold luster is a decorative overglaze that contains real gold, typically used to add luxurious, reflective highlights to ceramics or jewelry. As an overglaze, it is applied on top of a previously glaze-fired surface. After application, the piece is fired again at a low temperature to fuse the luster, resulting in a brilliant, mirror-like metallic finish.

How to Use Bright Gold Luster:

For safe and successful application, follow these guidelines:
1. Ensure Proper Ventilation: Always work in a well-ventilated area. Wearing a vapor respirator is strongly recommended to avoid inhaling potentially harmful fumes.
2. Prepare the Surface: Make sure the glazed surface is clean and free from dust, oils, or lotions. Wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol before application (except on crackle glazes).
3. Use a Dedicated Brush: Only use brushes that are specifically designated for gold luster to avoid contamination.
4. Do Not Shake or Stir: Avoid mixing the luster to maintain its consistency and performance.
5. Application: Dispense a small amount onto a glazed palette. Apply one thin, even coat using smooth brushstrokes. Avoid pooling—spread evenly for the best finish.
6. Handling Before Firing: The decorated piece can be fired while still wet. Handle carefully to avoid smudging, and do not touch the decoration. Ensure the kiln is clean, well-ventilated, and not overloaded.
7. Firing Temperature: Fire to cone 06.

Note: This product is intended for use by individuals aged 12 and older. Please read all instructions carefully before use.

Overglazes are non-toxic once properly fired and are considered safe for use on items intended for food and drink. However, pieces decorated with gold overglaze should not be used in microwave ovens.

While overglazed surfaces are food-safe, extra care should be taken during cleaning. Avoid abrasive scrubbing, as the delicate metallic or pearlescent layer can be worn away. Hand-washing with gentle care is recommended. Though overglazed items may withstand occasional dishwasher use, repeated cycles will eventually cause the decorative finish to fade. For best results, treat overglazed pieces like fine china.
